Question: What do Tim Roth, Adrian Body, William Dafoe, Garrett Hedlund, Jamie Bell, Gary Oldman and Emile Hirsch have in common? Yes they are all actors… but try again… Yes, it is true that none of them were present for the Golden Globe Awards last week, but for a very, very fashionable reason. They were ALL starring in a show of their very own. The Prada Fall 2012 runway show! Leave it to Miuccia Prada to be the creative genius to cast these leading men as her finale for the Fall 2012 collection show. And what a lavish show it was.
Miuccia Prada always has a sense of humor about her design genius. Little innuendos in her fabrications, details and even her models poke fun at her themes. Quoted on Style.com Miuccia said backstage that this show was “a parody of male power.” And after reading the review on Style.com I can see why. (Sidebar: The photos never do the fabrics and details justice… so I’m trusting the experts at Style.com to lead the way on what I’m seeing.)
Apparently some of the dressier pieces were made in denim, and there are even football helmets and Native American headdresses mixed throughout, which is definitely ironic as this historical sartolialism is very much geared at the European military of yester year. The admirals, the dukes and the dandies - Muiccia has drawn inspiration from them all, yet mocks them at the same time. Gotta love Miuccia Prada for that. Tim Blanks of Style.com wrote: “An awful lot of ingenious thought had gone into making a statement about the emptiness of dressing to impress, while, at the same time, producing clothes that will entice men to do exactly that. “ Well played Mr. Blanks, well played.
So let’s take this down to wearability. The normal man is not going to be sporting the general jacket, but there are definitely some fun ideas we can take away from the Prada Men’s Fall 2012 collection and try out on the streets. (Go see the whole collection here.)
- Color combination: Eggplant + Toasted Carmel = Genius
- Bringing back the dandy without crossing “that” line (for our straight male readers)
- Continuing with the double-breasted jacket trend
- Wearing flowers in lapels for a touch of romanticism
- Investing in red, John Lennon shades
- And lastly? Bringing back the faux fur shearling collar for me. Gay or straight, my style radar says: HOT.
